Our new recycled boardies which is included in our second summer range is now available (instore from May 08).
What are those Recycled Boardies ? Billabong has developped an exclusive fabric called Eco-Supreme Suede. This is made from recycled textiles and plastic bottles.
To create the recycled boardies, bottles are collected and have their caps and labels removed before being granulated and dried. Then, through a process nown as polymerization, the plastic flakes are made into a polyester fibre, which is then used in the fabric to make the boardies. Approximately 10 plastic bottles are used to create one pair of boardies. They’re just as functional as our other boardies but come with the added benefit of giving something back to our environment. Enjoy !

hey…i am curious about what kind of recycled textiles are used.
The whole process of transforming plastic into polyester and then fabric…it sounds pretty cool…but what about the toxins and waste which are let out in the environment due to this process??

Hi Namrata,
Fabric is from bottles cut into pieces then convert to small plastic pellets then to yarn filaments which is 100% polyester content. It doesn’t have toxins and waste due to this process.
